Lamine Yamal Tops CIES Alternative Ballon d'Or Ahead of Olise and Kane

Barcelona's 19-year-old prodigy Lamine Yamal has been awarded the alternative Ballon d'Or by statistical observatory CIES. The analysis evaluated player performances over the past twelve months using three objective metrics: performance levels across eight tactical aspects, match difficulty, and overall team success. The young Spanish forward secured top spot, finishing ahead of Michael Olise and Harry Kane.

The analytical approach offers a stark contrast to traditional awards voting, placing Lionel Messi fourth and Desire Doue fifth, while Kylian Mbappe dropped to sixth place. The top ten was rounded out by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Pedri, Pau Cubarsi, and Erling Haaland. Notably, official Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembele ranked down in 27th place, reflecting how CIES's data-driven methodology rewards individual metrics and team consistency at Barcelona.
